At 3,450 meters above sea level, the ground turns white as far as the eye can see: 212 km² of pure salt under the Puna sun. In the rainy season, a thin layer of water turns the Salinas Grandes into a mirror where the sky doubles and you lose all sense of up and down. The contrast of the endless white against the blue of the altiplano is one of the most surreal spectacles the Argentine north has to offer.
